IIASA's Ecosystems Services and  Management Program is hiring a Research Scholar to conduct research within an international team of researchers in the Earth Observation Systems group (EOS).
 
The successful candidate will take care of research and management activities such as:
 
Support the EOS team with image analysis in particular land cover classification
Support the EOS team with GIS analysis
Support the EOS team with statistical analysis in particular sampling design
Publish results in peer reviewed journals
Required Qualifications and Experience: 
Minimum of a PhD degree, preferably in a relevant subject such as geography, GIS, remote sensing, geospatial sciences or IT
Experience in GIS, databases, spatial analysis and statistical software packages: ArcGIS,  QGIS, GDAL, POSTGRESS, POSTGIS, R or equivalent
Experience in Image Processing using Open Source  or Proprietary Remote Sensing Software: GRASS, Python, IDL or equivalent
Expertise in data integration or data fusion of different datasets such as points, raster, crowd-sourced and other spatial datasets
Experience in the developing world (e.g. Africa) desirable
Excellent command of English, both in spoken and written 
Strong interest in EOS topics, in particular remote sensing, crowdsourcing, land cover, land use
Ability to work well both independently as well as part of an international team.
