IIASA's Water Program is offering a position

As part of the Water Futures and Solutions Initiative, IIASA's Water Program is offering a position for a Liaison Expert for establishing strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships between the Water Futures and Solutions Initiative, other global programs, and stakeholders from developing countries.
The successful candidate has solid experience in water management, energy and/or food security issues in developing countries and will support the WFaS Initiative to build strong and strategic partnerships between researchers, development cooperation practitioners, civil society actors and private sector stakeholders engaged in water, food and energy security to inform and guide the research agenda within the Initiative. Such strategic partners for the Initiative are well selected to represent i) various fields of the water, food and energy sector ii) various types of organizations ranging from academia and think tanks, public entities and administrations, civil society organizations to private sector actors, iii) which engage at local, national, regional and global levels.
Tasks:
  • Undertake stakeholder analysis in the area of water, energy and food security which are relevant and critical for the WFaS Initiative with a focus on developing countries and ADA partner countries in particular.
  • Develop further and maintain a network of relevant stakeholders for engagement with the WFaS Initiative with a focus on strengthening links to developing countries based on existing IIASA networks.
  • Design, establish and maintain platforms for stakeholder engagement that are in particular suitable for participation of developing countries in the WFaS Initiative.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director, coordinate collaboration with identified key stakeholders from developing countries within the WFaS Initiative.
  • Explore synergies and opportunities for collaboration with similar or complementary research and partnership initiatives for the benefit of the WFaS Initiative
  • Contribute to the design of the research agenda and the research work within the Initiative.
  • Contribute to the scoping of products and outputs of the Initiative.
  • Contribute to the work planning of the Initiative.
  • Contribute to public relation and communication activities of the Initiative. 
Requirements:
  • Master's degree (minimum) in the field of engineering (water, agriculture or energy), natural science, environmental management or any related field.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the field of water management, food security or energy ideally covering different types of employers/institutions (academia, public administration, private sector, civil society). Two different types of employers is a must.
  • At least five years of professional experience (out of at least 10 years) is related to development cooperation, preferably with developing countries as duty station.
  • Proven exposure to and experience with global, regional and local institutions engaged in water, and/or energy and/or food security in developing countries.
  • Proven work experience in trans-disciplinary work in particular in water, food-security and energy.
  • Proven analytical skills and experience in stakeholder consultations, policy development / advice at various levels.
  • Proven communication skills and demonstrated experience in the implementation of partner engagement strategies/programs.
  • Strong interest and background in integrative systems analysis.
  • Fluency in English.
